Talley, Simkins & Madry Set to Compete at U.S. Track & Field Championships

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – University of Miami junior Khadija Talley, sophomore Krista Simkins and freshman Christina Madry all have earned a berth into the 2007 U.S. Outdoor Track and Field Championships slated to begin Thursday, June 21 at IUPUI’s Michael A. Carroll Track and Soccer Stadium in Indianapolis, Ind.
Talley, a native of Benning, Ga., will compete in the senior division in the shot put Sat. at 4:30 p.m. During the outdoor season, she recorded three first place finishes highlighted by her performance at the Georgia Tech Invite May 12 which saw her hit a personal-best mark of 54 feet (16.46m).
Also competing in the senior division, Simkins, who hails from Ambler, Pa., will take part in the 200-meter prelims on Sun. beginning at 12:45 p.m. Earlier this year, she took the 2007 ACC Outdoor Championship in the same event with a personal-best time of 23.08 seconds which also marked the third fastest performance in UM history.
A product of El Paso, Texas, Madry will compete in the long jump in the junior division Thurs. at 1 p.m. In her first season at UM, Madry’s best mark of the season came in Gainesville, Fla. at the Florida Relays April 6 which saw her reach 19-04.75 feet (5.91m).
Also scheduled to compete are former Hurricanes Lauryn Williams (2002-04), Dominique Darden (2003-06) and Wyllesheia Myrick (1998-00, 2002).
Williams, the 2004 Olympic silver medalist in the 100-meters, and Myrick, a two-time All-American at UM, will each compete in the 100 and 200-meters while Darden, who earned a UM-record 15 combined indoor and outdoor All-America honors at Miami, will compete in the 400-meter hurdles.
