Alonso Earns Baseball America Second Team All-America Honors

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – – University of Miami sophomore first baseman Yonder Alonso has been named second team All-American by Baseball America. Alonso was previously named third team All-American by Collegiate Baseball Newspaper.

Alonso earned second team All-Atlantic Coast conference honors after leading the ACC in home runs (18), RBIs (74) and walks (64). He finished the season hitting .376 with a team-high 32 extra-base hits. He slugged .705, owned a .519 on-base percentage and stole 13 of 16 bases. He ranked second on the team with a career-best 79 hits while starting all 61 games at first base. He fielded .985 with 566 putouts and 37 assists.

It is Alonso’s third All-American honor of his career. He also was named second team All-American as a designated hitter by Rivals.com.

Alonso is spending his summer playing for the Brewster Whitecaps in the Cape Cod League.
