Men's Tennis Faces Tennessee in NCAA Tournament Play Friday

Coral Gables, Fla. – The No. 34 University of Miami men’s tennis team opens NCAA Tournament action on Friday, May 11, versus 25th-ranked Tennessee at Ohio State’s Stickney Tennis Center in Columbus, Ohio, at 4 p.m. LIVE STATSwill be available online courtesy of the NCAA and Ohio State.
Second-seeded host Ohio State and No. 67 Columbia will square off at 1 p.m., followed by the Miami-Tennessee match. The winners will meet in the NCAA’s Second Round in Columbus on Saturday, May 12, at 1 p.m.
The Hurricanes (11-13, 5-6 ACC) – who advanced to the NCAA’s third round just one year ago – earned an at-large bid to the tournament and makes their 42nd appearance in the last 49 years – including their second straight under third-year head coach Mario Rincon.
Following the team competition, which continues from May 17-22 at the University of Georgia, Miami will continue its postseason with competitors in the NCAA singles and doubles championships in Athens, Ga., from May 23-28.
Ninth-ranked senior Luigi D’Agord (Freeport, Bahamas), the two-time ACC Player of the Year, and No. 53 Daniel Vallverdu (Valencia, Venezuela) are among the 64 student-athletes selected to compete in the individual competition, while the fifth-ranked doubles tandem of D’Agord and senior Josh Cohen (Weston, Fla./Laurel Springs) is among 34 duos slated to compete in the doubles competition.
