May 3, 2007
The Atlantic Coast Conference has announced the women’s outdoor track & field accolades for the 2007 season as voted on by the league’s head coaches. The University of Miami congratulates senior Amy Seward, who was selected as the ACC Meet Most Valuable Field Performer for this season.
Seward’s accomplishment is well deserved. Last month, she won the heptathlon event at the ACC Outdoor Track & Field Championships. The Virginia Beach, Va., native won three of the seven heptathlon events including the 100-meter hurdles, 200-meters and long jump.
Seward also earned All-ACC recognition with a third-place finish in the long jump with a mark of 20 feet, four-and-a-half inches (6.21m) and ran the third leg of the Hurricanes’ 4×100 meter relay team that placed second with a time of 44.58 seconds.
Other 2007 honorees included Wake Forest’s Michelle Sikes, who was named the Most Valuable Track Performer; Virginia Tech’s Kristi Castlin, who was tabbed as the conference’s Freshman of the Year; and Virginia Tech’s Dave Cianelli, who earned Coach of the Year honors.
