CORAL GABLES, Fla. – University of Miami senior Amy Seward has been named the 2007 Atlantic Coast Conference Outdoor Field Performer of the Year as announced today by the ACC.
Seward, a native of Virginia Beach, Va., was recently crowned the ACC Outdoor Champion in the heptathlon after taking first place with a NCAA provisional total of 5,348 points. Seward claimed the ACC heptathlon title by winning three of the seven events including the 100-meter hurdles, 200-meters and long jump.
She also earned All-ACC recognition at the ACC Championships with a third-place finish in the long jump with a mark of 20 feet, four-and-a-half inches (6.21m) and ran the third leg of the UM 4×100-meter relay team that placed second with a time of 44.58 seconds.
Seward placed fourth in the triple jump with a mark of 41 feet, two-and-one-quarter inches (12.55m).
Seward has hit NCAA regional qualifying marks in four of the six meets she has competed in the long jump including a season-best mark of 20 feet, 11-and-a-half inches (6.39m) earlier this season at the Florida Relays in Gainesville, Fla. She has recorded NCAA regional marks in three of the four competitions she has entered.
Seward’s ACC Outdoor Field Performer of the Year honor, selected by vote of league coaches, gives the Hurricanes a 2007 ACC Field Performer of the Year sweep as senior teammate Brenda Faluade garnered the same accolade during the indoor season earlier this year.
