Hurricanes Close Out Thursday's Events at Penn Relays

PENNSYLVANIA, Pa. – The University of Miami women’s 4×400-meter relay team posted the third-fastest preliminary time recorded to highlight Thursday’s action at the 113th Penn Relays held at the University of Penn’s historic Franklin Field.
The UM 4×400 relay team of freshman Kristy Whyte, senior Ginou Etienne, sophomore Ena Leufroy and sophomore Krista Simkins, which finished second at last weekend’s ACC Outdoor Championships, crossed with a time of 3:37.79 to earn a spot in Saturday’s 4×400-meter “Championship of America.”
The Hurricanes’ 4×100-meter relay team of Whyte, Simkins, senior Amy Seward and freshman Ashley Dukes posted the ninth-fastest time in Thursday’s preliminary heats and will return Friday for the finals of the 4×100-meter “College” division.
In the shot put, junior Khadija Talley placed seventh in the “Championship” divisision with a mark of 15.08 meters (49-05.75 feet) and junior Misti Barber finished seventh in the “College” division with a mark of 13.77 meters (45-02.25).
Junior Kaitlin Nazario took sixth place in the “College” division of the javelin throw with a mark of 42.73 meters (140-02.25) and senior Amy Seward posted a sixth place finish in the “Championship” long jump with a mark of 5.87 meters (19-03.25).
