CORAL GABLES, Fla. – Coming off a second place finish at last week’s 2007 ACC Outdoor Championships, the University of Miami women’s track team held its position as the nation’s No. 13 team in the latest US Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association Poll (USTFCCCA) released Tuesday.

Led by sophomore Krista Simkins, who, in addition to winning the ACC title in the 200-meters, earned All-ACC honors in the 100-meters and the 4×100 and 4×400-meter relays, the Hurricanes set three new Kehoe Track facility records at the University of Maryland en route to finishing second at the ACC Championships.

Several Hurricanes currently boast times and marks which rank among the top-10 recorded in the nation thus far. Simkins’ ACC Championship time of 23.08 seconds in the 200-meters was the 10th-fastest ran this season. Simkins also anchored the UM 4×400-meter relay team last weekend that finished second with a time of 3:32.67 which is the fourth-fastest. Senior Brenda Faluade has the second-best mark in the triple jump (44-05.00) and the fourth-highest in the long jump (21-05.00). Senior Amy Seward is also among the nation’s top long jumpers with a mark of 20-11.50 feet which stands at the ninth best in the NCAA while senior Ginou Etienne’s time of 52.46 seconds in the 400-meters is the ninth-fastest. Sophomore Viktoria Andonova olds the nation’s ninth-highest mark in the high jump (6-00.00).

The Hurricanes will head to the University of Pennsylvania’s Franklin Field later this week for the 113th-annual Penn Relays held Thursday through Saturday.
