Hurricanes Fall to Georgia Tech in the ACC Finals

Cary, N.C. -The fourth-seeded Miami women’s tennis team fell to second-seed Georgia Tech, 4-1, in the ACC Championship Final Sunday afternoon at the Cary Tennis Center in Cary, N.C. The Hurricanes fall 19-6 overall, while the match marked the Yellow Jackets’ (23-4) third consecutive ACC title.
Miami opened the match by winning the doubles point with wins at Nos. 1 and 3 spots. Non-ranked duo Audrey Banada and Gina Sabatino topped Tarryn Rudman and Kirsten Flower 8-2, while the Hurricanes’ No. 33-ranked duo Audra Cohen and Laura Vallverdu posted an 8-6 upset over the third-ranked doubles tandem of Kristi Miller and Whitney McCray.
The Yellow Jackets tied the match when No. 74 Amanda Craddock defeated 50th-ranked Banda 6-3, 6-2, at the No. 3 position.
The Nos. 4 and 1 singles match-ups were won by Georgia Tech, including a loss by Romy Farah to 6-1, 6-1. Eighth-ranked Miller handed top-ranked Cohen her first loss of the regular season with a score of 7-5, 6-2.
With Georgia Tech up 3-1 over Miami, the No. 5 match-up between junior Caren Seenauth and Christy Striplin , saw Miami faced with a three-set battle that could determine the fate of their opponent of a possible clinched match. Seenauth picked-up the first set at 6-3, but dropped the final two sets, 6-0, 6-1, that sent Georgia Tech on with the match victory.
