Baseball Hosts North Florida in Nonconference Game Tonight

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – – Miami will host North Florida Wednesday night at 7 p.m. in its second to last mid-week game of the season. The game will be carried by the Student Voice of UM, WVUM (90.5 FM), which can also be picked up online at www.wvum.org. Fans can also watch the game via the internet on ACC Select.

The Hurricanes are coming off a home series loss against NC State. UM dropped a heart-breaker in 13 innings Friday night, 5-3. The Hurricanes bounced back Saturday behind Enrique Garcia’s complete game performance Saturday to even the series with a 5-1 win, before falling 19-9 on Sunday. Garcia was named the ACC Pitcher of the Week after striking out a career-high 12 batters. Sophomore right fielder Dennis Raben is coming off a good NC State series as well. Raben hit .438 going 7-for-16 with 7 RBI and three home runs as he helped Miami to a 2-2 week. He hit .462 in the NC State series racking up a team-high six hits. He homered in each of the NC State games and now has eight home runs on the season. He extended his hitting streak to six game and is hitting .440 (11-for-25) with the three home runs and seven RBI.

Junior lefty Manny Miguelez will make his third straight mid-week start on the season Wednesday.

North Florida (15-25) is coming off a 4-2 loss at Florida Atlantic Tuesday night. The Ospreys out hit the Owls 10-9 and were led at the plate by sophomore center fielder Brian Wilson, who went 2-for-4 with an RBI. Junior third baseman Chad Knight went 1-for-3 with an RBI. UNF will send RHP Antoinio Franzese (0-3, 4.13 ERA) to the mound Wednesday. The Ospreys enter the game hitting .270 as a team and have a 5.35 team ERA.

Miami continues Atlantic Coast Conference play this weekend when they travel to Virginia Tech for a three-game conference series.
