Miami Prepares for 2007 ACC Outdoor Track and Field Championships

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The University of Miami women’s track and field team will head to the University of Maryland’s Kehoe Track Complex for the 2007 ACC Outdoor Track and Field Championships beginning Thursday, April 19 running through Saturday, April 21.

Exclusive three-day coverage of the ACC Outdoor Championships will be available for fans to watch at 8 p.m. nightly and on an on-demand basis courtesy of ACC Select at www.accselect.com .

The Hurricanes will vie for its third-consecutive ACC Outdoor Championship and its seventh-consecutive and ninth overall conference title this weekend in College Park.

Leading the Hurricane contingent is 2007 ACC Indoor Field Performer of the Year, senior Brenda Faluade who holds the ACC’s top outdoor mark in both the long jump (21-05.00 feet) and the triple jump (44-05.00). Faluade’s mark in the long jump, set April 6 at the Pepsi Florida Relays, also established a new UM record.

Including Faluade Miami athletes hold four of the top five marks in the ACC this season in the long jump.

Several Hurricanes have the second-best performances in their respective events including sophomore Krista Simkins (23.53 seconds) in the 200-meters, senior Ginou Etienne (52.60) in the 400-meters and sophomore Viktoria Andonova who set a UM record earlier this season in the high jump with a mark of six feet.

Additionally, junior Khadija Talley has the third-highest mark in both the discuss (168-08.75) and the shot-put (52-00.00) and the fifth-highest mark in the hammer throw (179-02.00).

Competition will begin Thursday at 10:30 a.m. and continues through Friday up until Saturday’s award ceremony slated for 4:15 p.m.
