CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The University of Miami women’s track and field team recorded a combined five first place and 10 top-three finishes Saturday at this year’s annual Miami Elite Invitational held at Cobb Stadium.

Leading the way for the women’s team was junior Khadija Talley who posted first-place finishes in both the shot put and the discus with NCAA Regional qualifying marks of 15.85 and 50.89 meters, respectively.

In the women’s long jump freshman Deandra Doyley took first-place honors with a mark of 6.12 meters – an NCAA Regional qualifying mark – while fellow classmate Christina Madry placed third with a jump of 5.80 meters.

Senior Brenda Faluade earned the day’s highest mark in the triple jump with an NCAA Regional leap of 13.54 meters.

Senior Ginou Etienne edged out sophomore teammate Ena Leufroy to win the women’s 800 meters finishing with a time of 2:08.66 to Leufroy’s 2:09.53. Both times were good for NCAA Regional qualifying standards.

The UM men’s and women’s teams will return to action next weekend heading to College Park, Md. for the 2007 ACC Outdoor Track and Field Championships.
