Men's Tennis Faces Clemson in ACC Home Opener
March 15, 2007
Coral Gables, Fla. – The University of Miami men’s tennis team takes on its eighth-straight ranked opponent in No. 24 Clemson on Friday, March 16, in part two of a Hurricanes doubleheader. Miami’s eighth-ranked women’s tennis team kicks off Friday’s action with a 9 a.m. match versus Harvard, followed by the men’s team in its ACC home opener at 2 p.m.
Miami, ranked No. 73 in the nation, leads the all-time series versus Clemson, 22-18, including an 0-2 mark in ACC play since joining the league in 2004-05. In last season’s 5-2 loss at Clemson, the Hurricanes picked up wins at the No. 1 and 5 singles positions and in No. 1 doubles.
Playing an incredibly challenging schedule, the Hurricanes have struggled as of late, dropping six straight matches to top-30 opponents — including two matches by just one point. Additionally, Miami put up a valiant effort versus a pair of top-10 teams in then-No. 10 Florida State and No. 2 Ohio State, earning a pair of victories in singles play in each match.
Following Friday’s match, the `Canes return to action on Sunday, March 18, with a non-conference contest versus No. 17 Rice at noon. Fans will be treated to complementary pizza during the match, while a youth clinic for children 13 and under will follow the match.
