March 13, 2007
Coral Gables, Fla. – The Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) named No. 1 ranked Audra Cohen ACC Women’s Tennis Player of the Week after helping 12th ranked Miami to a 3-0 record to open up conference action with victories over No. 14 Wake Forest, No. 27 Florida State and No. 38 NC State last week.
As the second Hurricane to receive the weekly award this season, Cohen went 3-0 in both singles and doubles in conference play. The Plantation, Fla. native secured wins over No. 58 Alex Hirsch from Wake Forest (6-0, 6-4), No. 98 Nicola Slater of Florida State (6-1, 6-4) and NC State’s Daria Petrovic (6-3, 6-3), all at the No. 1 spot. Cohen has a season record of 23-1 with an 18-match win streak, and is undefeated in dual play with 13 straight wins.
In doubles, Cohen paired with junior Caren Seenauth to combine as the nation’s No. 30 doubles team. The duo easily defeated FSU’s Tapiwa Marobela and Lauren Macfarlene (8-4), Wake Forest’s 40th-ranked doubles pair Ashlee Davis and Sasha Kulikova (8-2) and NC State’s Julia Roach and Kate Green (8-6). Cohen and Seenauth are 8-0 since joining at the No. 2 position back on February 16. Cohen is 20-3 in doubles this season, and is still ranked in doubles at No. 11 with freshman Laura Vallverdu.
Miami returns to non-conference action on Friday, March 16, when it hosts Harvard University. Match-time at the Neil Schiff Tennis Center is set to begin at 9 a.m.
