Miami Tennis Set to Take on Wake Forest

Coral Gables, Fla. – The twelfth ranked University of Miami women’s tennis team prepares to take on Atlantic Coast Conference foe No. 14 Wake Forest on Friday beginning at 11 a.m. at the Neil Schiff Tennis Center.
The Hurricanes (9-2, 1-0 ACC), get back into action after hosting No. 27 Florida State (7-3, 0-1 ACC) this past Tuesday. The match was a hard fought battle for the Hurricanes, as they managed to come away with a 4-3 victory, and posted their second consecutive defeat over the in-state rivals in an ACC opener.
Junior Romy clinched the match for the Hurricanes after she showed an impressive display of competitiveness against No. 62 Laura Macfarlane. The match was the deciding factor as to who would claim victory with the match tied at 3-all. After both players posted a split-set match, the third set saw Farah take a 5-2 lead, just before Macfarlane failed to post her next game as a result of a double fault, sending the Seminoles packing with Farah capturing the win at 6-2, and the match victory.
No. 1 Audra Cohen defeated No. 98 Nicola Slater in an intense battle at the No. 1 position. Cohen captured the 6-1, 6-4 win, while at the No. 5 position, junior Gina Sabatino went on to down her opponent Jessica Wente, 6-2, 6-2. Senior Audrey Banada took on No. 82 Ania Rynarzewska, and finished with a 6-4, 6-2 win.
Junior Audra Cohen and junior Caren Seenauth remain undefeated in No. 2 doubles at 6-0 overall. The doubles duo are now ranked No. 30 in the nation, capturing their first doubles ranking of the season. They took on Tapiwa Marobela and Lauren Macfarlane, and topped their FSU opponent 8-4.

Scouting the Opponent:
No. 14 Wake Forest (6-1, 1-0 ACC) will head to Coral Gables after coming off a 4-3 upset over then No. 4 North Carolina to open up ACC play.
The win posted a sweet victory for the Demon Deacons, as they have come up short in their last two meetings against the Tar Heels prior to this last match. Junior Alexandra Hirsch, who is ranked 58, clinched the match for Wake Forest.
Senior Ashlee Davis is ranked 100, while Christian Tara is ranked 101. In doubles, Davis and Sasha Kulikova are ranked 40 and Tara and Ana Jerman are ranked 53.
