Hurricane Diving Set to Compete in the NCAA Zone B Diving Championships

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The University of Miami diving squad will head to the 2007 NCAA Zone B Diving Championships that will take place Friday, March 2 through Sunday March 4 at the Gabrielsen Natatorium on the campus of the University of Georgia.

Springboard will begin noon on Friday and Saturday, while platform will begin at 10 a.m. on Sunday.

With five zone competitions taking place this weekend consisting of the top 35 men and the top 41 women, only eight men and 11 women will compete in the Zone B competition. Zone B includes some 90-plus divers, and only the top competitors will move on.

Miami will be competing against divers from Alabama, Auburn, Clemson, Duke, East Carolina, Florida, Florida Atlantic, Florida International, Florida State, tournament host Georgia, Georgia Tech, Kentucky, Louisville, LSU, North Carolina, North Carolina State, North Florida, South Carolina, Tennessee and Virginia Tech.

Dreyer and Ross will head to Georgia after turning in outstanding performances at the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) Swimming and Diving Championships. Both divers captured the gold medal in both the men’s and women’s one-meter and three-meter diving competitions, while Bounds and Starks went home with the silver medals in what was their final ACC championship competition. Bounds earned the silver in both women’s one-meter and three-meter, while Starks captured the silver in the men’s one meter.

Last season Starks advanced to the NCAA Men’s Diving Championships and finished fourth in the one meter springboard, which earned him an All-American honor. Bounds captured All-American mention honors last season after finishing 10th in the preliminaries.
