Scheiner Breaks School Record at ISU Classic

AMES, Iowa. – Senior Jonathan Scheiner set a University of Miami indoor record in the 5,000 meters with a time of 14:52.13 Friday to highlight the first day of competition for the UM men’s track and field team at the Iowa State Classic.
Scheiner’s time placed 16th overall while topping former Hurricane Chris Miller’s previous school record of 14:54.07 set Feb. 27, 1997.
In the 60-meter prelims, four Hurricanes advanced to Saturday’s finals led by junior Lance Leggett’s time of 8.03 which was the fastest time in his respective heat and the sixth fastest run of the day.
Day two of the ISU Classic will continue Saturday at the Leid Recreation Athletic Facility.
