Women's Tennis Ranked Eighth in the Latest ITA Rankings

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The University of Miami women’s tennis team is ranked eighth in the country in the latest Fila Collegiate Tennis rankings that are administered by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA), it was announced Tuesday. Over the weekend, Miami head coach Paige Yaroshuk-Tews earned her 100th win when the Hurricanes defeated No. 10 Baylor in the quarterfinals consolation round at the ITA National Indoor Championships.
The Hurricanes (4-1, 0-0 ACC) finished 2-1 at the USTA/ITA National Indoor Championships last weekend. Six Atlantic Coast Conference schools remain among the top 25, with three teams in the top 10. Georgia Tech moved up to the No. 1 spot, while North Carolina moved one spot up to No. 7, followed by Miami at No.8.
Miami, making its seventh appearance in the National Indoor Championships, defeated tournament host Wisconsin 7-0 in the first round Thursday (February 1). The Hurricanes faced then No. 8 Northwestern in the quarterfinals Friday. After a hard fought contest, Miami fell to the Wildcats 4-3. In the quarterfinals consolation round, the Hurricanes defeated No. 10 Baylor 6-1. This season marked the Hurricanes’ third consecutive ITA National Team Indoor quarterfinal appearance.
The Baylor match clinched the 100th win for sixth-year head coach Paige Yaroshuk-Tews. Last season, Yaroshuk-Tews led her team to its first NCAA finals appearance since 1985. With that appearance, the Hurricanes became just the second ACC team to reach the NCAA finals. Yaroshuk-Tews, who has led Miami to three consecutive 20-win seasons, has reached the NCAA tournament every year in her tenure as head coach.
The Hurricanes will be back in action Friday, February 16 as No. 20 Texas visit Coral Gables. The dual match is set to begin at 11 a.m. at the Neil Schiff Tennis Center. Admission is free to the public.
