Hurricanes Ranked Fifth in Latest Fila Collegiate Tennis Rankings

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The University of Miami women’s tennis team remains the fifth ranked team in the country in the latest Fila Collegiate Tennis rankings that are administered by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA), it was announced Tuesday.

The Hurricanes (2-0, 0-0 ACC), who opened the season with a 7-0 sweep over Florida Atlantic and a 6-1 defeat over Princeton last Friday and Saturday respectively, were ranked fifth in the last ITA rankings, released January 9.

Six Atlantic Coast Conference schools are ranked among the Top 25 with four teams in the Top 10. Miami ranked the highest at No. 5, followed by Georgia Tech at No. 6 and North Carolina at No. 7. Duke comes in at No. 9, while Clemson and Wake Forest are ranked Nos. 18 and 19 respectively.

The rankings come out before the Hurricanes head to the USTA/ITA National Team Indoor Championships that will take place Feb. 1-3 at the University of Wisconsin’s A. C. Nielsen Tennis Stadium in Madison. Miami, seeded third, will take on tournament host Wisconsin in the first round Thursday, Feb. 1 at 3:30 p.m. CT.

Seven out of the 16 teams that will participate in the tournament are ranked among the Top 10.
