Women's Tennis Dominate Florida Atlantic to Open Their 2007 Spring Season

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The fifth ranked University of Miami women’s tennis team opened their 2007 dual season sweeping Florida Atlantic 7-0 Friday afternoon at the Neil Schiff Tennis Center. With the win, the Hurricanes improve to 1-0 while the Owls fall to 0-1.
The dual match opened with doubles, as all three Miami duos posted a 3-0 lead. At the No. 1 position, sixth ranked Audrey Banada and Romy Farah defeated Claudia Kecht and Elodie Wendling. Miami’s seventh ranked duo of junior Audra Cohen and freshman Laura Vallverdu paired up at the No. 2 spot taking an 8-2 win over the Owls’ Pia Terol and Katherine Bartnik. Miami clinched the doubles point after juniors Caren Seenauth and Gina Sabatino did not lose a game defeating Danielle Simone and Eve Xantahopoulos 8-0.
The first singles point posted on the board came after No.1 ranked Cohen took down Elodie Wendling 6-1, 6-3 at the No. 1 spot.
Caren Seenauth claimed a 6-0, 6-0 straight-set singles victory in the No. 4 position against Pia Terol, registering her second consecutive straight set win against an FAU opponent. Last season against the Owls, the junior won in the No. 5 position.
In the No. 2 spot, sixth ranked freshman Laura Vallverdu posted her first dual match victory against FAU’s Claudia Kecht. The rookie from Valencia, Venezuela won 6-2, 6-1.
No. 56 ranked Audrey Banada faced Katherine Bartnik in the No. 3 spot. The senior finished with a 6-1, 6-1 victory, while in the No. 5 position junior Gina Sabatino defeated Danielle Simone 6-2, 6-1.
New to the Hurricane line-up, freshman Claudia Wasilewski came away with her first dual win with a 6-1, 6-0 singles victory over Eve Xantahopoulos.
The Hurricanes are back in action when they take on the Tigers of Princeton University. The match is set to being at 2 p.m. Admission is free to the public.
