Audrey Banada Awarded to the First ACC Player of the Week Honor of 2007

CORAL GABLES, Fla.– The University of Miami’s Audrey Banada was selected as the Atlantic Coast Conference Women’s Tennis Player of the Week capturing the first weekly honor of the 2007 season. It was announced Monday.
The 56th ranked senior from North Miami Beach, Fla. posted a 3-0 record in both Flight 1 singles and Flight 1 doubles over the weekend at the Florida International University Invitational. Enroute to the victories, Banada defeated two ranked opponents, including No. 10 Shadisha Robinson 6-3, 4-6, 7-6 (7-5) of South Florida, and No. 84 Fani Chifchieva of Auburn University, 6-2, 1-6, 7-6 (7-4). On the final day, Banda faced FIU’s Paula Zabala, capturing a 6-3, 6-1 victory.
In oubles, Banada partenered with Romy Farah to post a perfect 3-0 record in doubles Flight 1. The sixth ranked duo defeated Paula Zabala and Nikkita Fountain of FIU 8-2, Ann-Marie Modric and Gabriela Duch of USF 8-5, and wrapped-up the weekend with an 8-4 win over Alex Haney and Jil Hastenrath of Auburn.
Banada ranks seventh in all-time career singles wins with a record of 85-18, and is third all-time in career doubles wins at 99-23. After this weekend’s perfect mark in both singles and doubles, Banada has surpassed the 100-win mark in doubles with a total of 102, while she is just 12 wins away of posting her 100th victory in singles with 88 total.
The fifth-ranked Hurricanes will return to action this weekend, playing host to Florida Atlantic and Princeton. Miami will face on FAU Friday, January 26 and then take on the Princeton Tigers on Saturday, January 27. Both matches are scheduled for 2 p.m.
