Swimming and Diving Fall to University of Houston

Houston, TX. – The University of Miami swimming and diving team fell to the University of Houston 106-137 Saturday afternoon at the Campus Recreation & Wellness Center Natatorium. With the loss, the Hurricanes fall to a 1-4 overall record.
Miami started the day with a first place win in the 200 yard medley relay with a time of 1:49.30. The race was led by senior Ashley Knapp, followed by Magda Waszkiewicz, Nancy Gajos, and Kirsten. The Hurricanes also placed second with a time of 1:52.32 with swimmers Margaret Ravenna, Christina Rau, Victoria Zubowicz, and Jennifer Powell.
Sophomore Kirsten Pomerleau was the only Miami swimmer who posted a first place win. In the 50 yard freestyle Pomerleau clocked in at 23.99.
In the 500 and 1000 yard freestyle, senior Tara Erwin posted second place finishes clocking in at 5:04.26 and 10:21.01 respectively.
Other second place finishes by the Hurricanes came when freshman Kelly Peloquin finished with a time of 2:09.19 in the 200 yard Individual Medley (IM), Capria DeVenuto clocked in at 2:10.10 in the 200 yard butterfly, and freshman Britta Boesing touched the wall at 53.46 in the 100 yard freestyle. In the 200 yard backstroke, senior Ashley Knapp finished with a time of 2:07.15 for second place.
In the diving competitions, senior Heather Bounds posted a score of 341.48 for second place, while Jenna Dreyer followed with a third place score of 324.60 in the three meter diving. Dreyer also registered a second place win in the one meter diving competition posting a score of 290.48.
The day ended with the Hurricanes finishing second place in the 400 yard freestyle relay led by Kirsten Pomerleau. Marina Dadic, Britta Boesing, and Kelly Peloquin finished out the race for Miami clocking in at 3:34.70.
Miami will compete in their first dual meet of the 2007 season as they take on cross-town rival Florida International, January 26 at the Norman Whitten Student Union Pool. The meet is set to begin at 4 p.m.
