Hurricanes Wrap up Successful First Day of Clemson Invitational

CLEMSON, S.C. – Highlighted by senior Amy Seward’s first-place finish in long jump, the University of Miami women’s track team concluded the first day of competition at the Clemson Invitational Friday in fourth place in the overall point standings.
Seward reached a mark of 6.01 meters in the finals of the long jump, topping Charlotte’s Pat Springs’ mark of 5.96 to take the first-place finish.
The Hurricanes wrapped up the day in fourth place with a total of 20 points thanks to Seward and junior Khad Talley, who placed second in the finals of the weight throw with an NCAA provisional qualifying throw of 62 feet, 6.5 inches.
In the 60-meter prelims freshman Ashley Dukes qualified for Saturday’s finals with a time of 7.53, which placed second overall.
In the 60-meter hurdles, freshman Deandra Doyley and Seward advanced to the finals with times of 8.73 and 8.97, respectively.
The second and final day of competition will conclude Saturday morning beginning at 11 a.m.
