Swimming and Diving Wrap-up Their Final Day of the Nike Cup Invitational

Chapel Hill, N.C. – The University of Miami swimming and diving teams concluded their final day at the Nike Cup Invitational in Chap Hill, North Carolina. The Hurricanes competed in the finals of four events.
The finals of the 1650 yard freestyle saw senior Tara Erwin finish with an eighth place win clocking in at 17:04.75.
In the consolation round of the 200 yard backstroke, Ashley Knapp posted a time of 2:06.47 in 16th place, while sophomore Margaret Ravenna followed not too far behind with a time of 2:06.81 for 18th place.
Sophomore Kristen Pomerleau registered a sixth place finish in the 100 yard freestyle with a time of 51.06. Before this, Pomerleau came in 10th place in the preliminaries with a time of 51.69.
In the finals of the 200 yard breaststroke, freshman Kelly Peloquin posted a 10th place finish with a time of 2:22.19, while Magda Waskiewicz finished the consolation round in the 15th place with a time of 2:23.48.
The Hurricanes finished 11th place in the 400 yard freestyle finals with swimmers Kristen Pomerleau, Nancy Gajos, Emerson Davis, and Tina McIntyre with a time of 3:32.35.
At the end of the day, Miami finished eighth out of ten schools with a score of 35.
Earlier in the day, the divers participated in the preliminaries where Heather Bounds and Jenna Dreyer finished second and third place respectively. Bounds finished with a score of 299.95, while Dreyer posted a score of 285.55. Freshman diver Ruben Ross scored 348.20 for fourth place.
Miami will wrap-up their 2006 fall season in two events beginning with the swimming team traveling to Ohio for the Ohio Invitational December 1-3, while the divers will head to West Lafayette, Ind. for the US Open November 30- December 2.
