Miami Women's Swimming on the Road to Compete in the Nike Cup Invitational

Coral Gables, Fla. – The University of Miami women’s swimming team will compete in the Nike Cup Invitational hosted by the University of North Carolina November 16-18. Clemson, Florida State, Virginia Tech, and North Carolina are among the other ACC schools that will participate in the three-day tournament at the Koury Natatorium. Preliminaries will begin at 10:00 a.m. each day, while the finals will begin at 6:00 p.m.
In addition to the four ACC opponents, other teams competing this weekend include East Carolina, Florida International, Gardner Webb, James Madison, Kentucky, and Syracuse.
The Hurricanes have completed four meets this season beginning with Florida International where Miami finished first place in ten events. In their first home meet against in-state rival Florida State, Miami finished 98-199 taking first place in three events.
Western Kentucky paid a visit to the Coral Gables campus going down to the Hurricanes 136-36, where Miami captured nine first-place wins out of 13 events.
The following weekend, UM headed north to the campus of Florida Atlantic University where they posted six first place wins, falling 136-163 to the Owls.
Miami is led by freshman Katie Eason who took first place finishes in all four meets so far on the season including two against Western Kentucky in the 200 yard individual medley clocking in at 2:06.79 and the 100 yard butterfly with a time of 57.88. In the 200-butterfly, Eason clocked in at 2:07.40 against FIU. Eason finished first place in the 200 yard individual medley clocking in at 2:07.50 versus FSU. In the last meet against FAU, she placed first ahead of three other FAU swimmers in the 100 yard butterfly, clocking in a time of 57.22.
Sophomore Kristen Pomerleau marked her third meet on the season posting two first-place finishes after clocking in a time of 23.55 in the 50 yard freestyle and 51.22 in the 100 yard freestyle against FAU. Prior to this meet, Pomerleau won the 50-freestyle with a time of 24.06 before taking an additional first place victory in the 100- freestyle with a time of 52.91 at the start of the season against FIU. Against Western Kentucky, Pomerleau posted first place finishes beginning with the 50 yard freestyle with a time of 23.94, and the 100 yard freestyle clocking in at 51.38.
Freshman Kelly Peloqin also turned in first place wins in two events, within a single meet where she tallied a final time of 4:31.45 in the 400-individual medley, and clocked in 2:22.21 in the 200-breaststroke versus FIU. In the 100 yard breaststroke, Peloquin clocked in at 1:04.89 for a first place finish against Western Kentucky.
For the second consecutive season-opener, Ashley Knapp took the top spot in the 200-backstroke with a time of 2:06.93 against FIU.
The Hurricanes will compete in the NCS at the US Open Thursday, November 30.
