UM Announces 2007 Men's Tennis Spring Schedule

Nov. 7, 2006

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The University of Miami along with head coach Mario Rincon have announced the 2007 spring dual meet men’s tennis schedule highlighted by 11 home matches at the Neil Schiff Tennis Center.

Throughout the Hurricanes’ scheduled 19 matches will be 11 against teams who advanced to the 2006 NCAA Tournament, including home matches with quarterfinalists Ohio State (March 10) and Virginia (April 6), as well as 13 with opponents who finished ranked in the top-67 of the final 2006 Fila/Intercollegiate Tennis Association Rankings (ITA).

Last season Rincon – the 2006 ACC Coach of the Year – and the Hurricanes, who finished 11th in the final Fila/ITA rankings, enjoyed a 20-5 overall record while earning a share of the ACC regular season title with a 9-2 mark in league matches.

Miami returns four players from last season’s lineup including senior All-American Luigi D’Agord who posted an overall record of 36-5 last season, finishing tied with former UM great Conny Falk for the second-most wins in a single season in school history. D’Agord – the 2006 ACC Player of the Year – is currently ranked No. 3 in the preseason Fila/ITA rankings.

Along with D’Agord, sophomore All-American Daniel Vallverdu returns a year after seeing an overall record of 17-7 along with an impressive 9-2 mark in league play to earn ACC Freshman of the Year honors.

“We are extremely excited about this schedule,” said Rincon. “We will be tested early against some of the nation’s top teams before we head into the ACC, which should be one of the best conferences top to bottom once again. We have a really talented group of returning players and with the level our newcomers are playing, we are really looking forward to the spring.”

The Hurricanes open the spring dual season at home Jan. 24 with an in-state battle versus Stetson at 3 p.m.
