Steward Finishes Third At Edwin Watts Invitational

Kiawah Island, S.C. (hurricanesports.com) – University of Miami junior Jessica Steward (Mystic, Conn.) fired a final round 70 to finish in a tied for third at the Edwin Watts/Palmetto Intercollegiate in Kiawah Island, S.C.
Steward, who recorded two rounds under-par en route to a three round total of 217 (71-76-70), has posted sub-par scores in four of her last six rounds. Two weeks ago she set a Hurricane 54-hole scoring record (69-68-72–209) in winning the GSU/Pelican Preserve Invite.
Steffi Kirchmayr (College of Charleston) won the individual title with a two-under-par total of 214 (69-72-73).
As a team the Hurricanes posted a score of 906 (296-310-300) to finish in fifth-place. Campbell (879) won the team championship by 10-strokes over East Tennessee State (889).
Junior Hagen Weintraub (Pembroke Pines, Fla.) and senior Tiffany Prats (Williston, Fla.) also played well for Miami recording their first top-20 finishes of the season. Weintraub finished in a tie for 15th (74-77-74–225) while Prats finished tied for 20th (76-74-76–226).
Senior Josie Shinn (Pinehurst, N.C.) was tied for 82nd (75-87-80–242) while senior Urd Pedersen (Norway) placed 94th (84-83-83–250).
The tournament was the final event of the fall season for the Hurricanes. Miami returns to action February 18-20 when it hosts the Papa John’s Collegiate at Don Shula’s Golf Resort in Miami Lakes, Fla.
