Steward Takes Commanding Lead At GSU Invite

Ft. Myers, Fla. (hurricanesports.com) – University of Miami junior Jessica Steward (Mystic, Conn.) fired rounds of 69 and 68 on Monday to take a six-stroke lead heading into Tuesday’s final round of the GSU/Pelican Preserve Invite in Ft. Myers, Fla.
Steward’s seven-under-par 137 is a Miami 36-hole record and puts her in position to win her first collegiate event. Texas Tech’s Gloriana Soto is second with a one-under-par 143 (72-71), while P. Phol-uayporn (FAU), Maria Hernandez (FIU) and Melissa Fahey (Texas Tech) are all at even-par 144.
On the strength of Steward’s performance the Hurricanes find themselves in sixth-place with a two-round total of 598. Louisville (584) leads the team competition by one stroke over Texas Tech (585).
Miami sophomore Annabelle Paulino (Dominican Republic) and junior Hagen Weintraub (Pembroke Pines, Fla.) each recorded two-round totals of 152 and are tied for 34th.
