Miami Opens Fall Season with Hurricane Fall Invitational

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – Members of the University of Miami men’s tennis team will take to the courts for the first time this season hosting the Hurricane Fall Invitational Friday through Sunday at the Neil Schiff Tennis Center. The Hurricanes will welcome players from in-state rivals Florida Atlantic and North Florida along with Georgia Southern at the three-day hidden-dual invite.

Featuring a roster with three nationally ranked players, including third-ranked senior Luigi D’Agord, third-year head coach and the Hurricanes will see action for the first time in the 2006-07 season coming off an impressive 2005-06 run that saw UM finish ranked 11th in the country.

Along with D’Agord, senior Josh Cohen (No. 54) and sophomore Daniel Vallverdu (No. 70) are both ranked nationally in singles. D’Agord and Vallverdu, who both earned All-America honors last season, are ranked No. 4 in doubles.

Miami will take on Georgia Southern while North Florida and Florida Atlantic square-off at 2 p.m.

The Hurricanes return Saturday morning, facing NFU at 10 a.m. before wrapping up the invite Sunday against FAU at 2 p.m.
