Four Hurricanes Named To All-ACC Academic Track and Field Team

Coral Gables, Fla. (hurricanesports.com) – Four University of Miami track and field athletes have been named to the 2006 All-ACC Academic Track and Field Team announced by Commissioner John D. Swofford.
Sophomore Andrew Parsons (Glens Falls, N.Y.) and junior Jonathan Scheiner (Katy, Texas) were named to the men’s team, while junior Tabia Charles (Pickering, Ont.) and junior Brenda Faluade (Katy, Texas) were honored on the women’s side.
To be eligible for consideration, a student-athlete must have earned a 3.00 grade point average for the previous semester and maintained a 3.00 cumulative average during their academic career.
Parsons is majoring in Architecture and carries a 3.65 cumulative GPA. He placed 11th at the ACC Indoor Championships in the pentathlon and ninth at the ACC Outdoor Championships in the decathlon, and recorded the team’s top marks in the triple jump and javelin this past outdoor season.
Scheiner, a Finance major with a 3.73 cumulative GPA, placed 28th in the 5000-meters at the ACC Outdoor. He ranked second on the team last season in both the 3000-meters and 5000-meters.
Charles graduated this May with a degree in Psychology completing her course work in just three years. She finished with a cumulative GPA of 3.33 and went on to complete her UM track and field career by winning the 2006 NCAA Outdoor title in the triple jump.
Faluade, who will be entering her senior season, boasts a 3.05 GPA in Exercise Physiology. The six-time All-American earned All-American honors in both the long jump and triple jump at the 2006 NCAA Indoor Championships as well as All-American honors in the triple jump at the NCAA Outdoor Championships.
