June 2, 2006
Coral Gables, Fla. (hurricanesports.com) – Head women’s track and field coach Amy Deem announces the signing of Kyra Mobley (Ft. Lauderdale St. Thomas Aquinas), Teirah Hall (De Soto, Texas) and Christina Madry (El Paso, Texas) to national letters of intent to attend the University of Miami this fall.
Highlighting the group is Mobley who helped lead St. Thomas Aquinas to a second-place finish at this season’s FSHAA Class 3A State Meet. Mobley was a member of the state champion 4×400-meter relay, finished second in the 800-meters and ran the anchor leg of the runner-up 4×800-meter relay.
Mobley, who has a personal-best time of 2:12.57 in the 800-meters, won the 800-meters at both the District and Region meets this season helping St. Thomas Aquinas win both events.
In 2005 she helped St. Thomas Aquinas capture the state championship by finishing second in the 800-meters and running a leg of the state champion 4×400-meter relay.
The addition of Mobley marks the fourth Broward County standout to sign with Miami this season. During the early signing period in November the Hurricanes received commitments from Deandra Doyley (Ft. Lauderdale High School), Ashley Dukes (Nova High School) and Mikaela Green (St. Thomas Aquinas).
Miami also landed two of the top field athletes in the state of Texas. Hall captured Regional titles in both the shot put and discus, and placed fourth in the shot put at this season’s UIL Class 5A State Championship meet. Her season-best shot put throw of 46 feet, 3 inches, ranks as the second best mark in the state season.
She was the 2005 AAU National Junior Olympic Champion and earned All-America honors with a second-place finish at last summer’s Nike Outdoor Nationals.
Madry, one of the nation’s top long jumpers, placed second at the UIL Class 4A State Championship meet. She currently ranks eighth in the nation with a jump of 19-07.75.
