Hurricanes Conclude Day One at Georgia Tech Invitational

ATLANTA, Ga. – Highlighted by a pair of NCAA Regional qualifying marks set by Brenda Faluade in the long jump and Akera Lathan in the shot put, members the University of Miami second-ranked track team wrapped up day one of the Georgia Tech Invitational Friday evening at the George C. Griffin Track.
Faluade reached a mark of 5.99 meters to finish fourth overall on the day in the long jump. Finishing just behind Faluade in fifth place was teammate Amy Seward with a jump of 5.93 meters.
In the shot put Lathan reached a seventh-place mark of 14.82 meters, .
Also competing Friday was Kaitlin Nazario who registered a third-place finish in the javelin throw with a mark of 41.87 meters.
In the 1,500 meter run, UM’s Melanie Schultz finished in the top 20, crossing with a 17th-place time of 4:36.79.
Day two of the Georgia Tech Invitational is slated to begin a 9 a.m. on Saturday.
