Coral Gables, Fla. (hurricanesports.com) – Twelve members of the University of Miami women’s track and field team and two members of the Hurricanes’ men’s track and field squad earned All-ACC honors in 16 events at the ACC Outdoor Track and Field Championships last weekend in Winston-Salem, N.C.
Leading the way for the Hurricanes were four student-athletes who garnered All-ACC recognition to two events including junior Tabia Charles (Pickering, Ont.), senior Dominique Darden (Harrisburg, Pa.), senior Charlette Greggs (Miami Northwestern) and sophomore Lance Leggett (Bartow, Fla.).
Leggett, competing in his first season on the men’s track and field team, won the ACC 400-hurdle title and placed second in the 110-hurdles by a mere one-one hundredth of a second.
Charles, a seven-time All-American, won both the long jump and triple jump to help the UM women win their second consecutive ACC Outdoor title. Greggs, an 11-time All-American, was also a dual winner placing first in both the 200-meters and 400-meters. With the two wins Greggs became the first person, male or female, in league history to win both events in consecutive seasons.
Darden, a 12-time All-American, won the 400-hurdles for the second consecutive season and placed third in 100-hurdles.
Sophomore All-American Tim Harris (Miami Booker T. Washington) was also an event champion placing first in the 800-meters. Harris also won the ACC Indoor title at 800-meters earlier this year.
Others earning All-ACC honors include freshman Viktoria Andonova (Coral Springs) in the high jump, junior All-American Ginou Etienne (Miami Central) in the 400-meters, junior All-American Brenda Faluade (Katy, Texas) in the triple jump, sophomore Akera Lathan (Miami Southridge) in the shot put, freshman Ena Leufroy (Atlanta, Ga.) in the 800-meters, freshman Kaitlin Nazario (Dover, N.J.) in the javelin, senior All-American India Ransom (Largo, Md.) in the 100-meters, junior Amy Seward (Virginia Beach, Va.) in the heptathlon, and sophomore Khadija Talley (Benning, Ga.) in the discus.
