Hurricanes Work in Full Pads in Ninth Practice
April 5, 2006
Coral Gables – The Hurricanes worked in full pads this afternoon on the Greentree Practice Fields, the ninth of 15 NCAA-sanctioned days of spring practice.
“We did a lot of situations today,” said head coach Larry Coker. “We were in full pads and did some short-yardage work, first-and-10, and some third-down work. We got a lot of work in. Time is running short and we don’t have a lot of days left, so we have to make every day count.”
Coker commented on the team’s defensive tackles, specifically two freshman, Antonio Dixon and Luqman Abdullah. “I like Dixon a lot. Luqman is young but he’s going to be a good player. And we can move Baraka Atkins inside, and Bryan Pata has played in there. Teraz McCray is a spring standout, and I think he’ll be a fall standout. He and Kareem Brown are very good inside, and I feel very good about those guys.”
The Hurricanes will practice again at 3:20 p.m. Friday at the Greentree Practice Fields. The annual spring game and the BankUnited CanesFest will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, April 15 at the Orange Bowl. The spring game is free to the public, and so is parking.
