Rinaldi Qualifies For NCAA Championships

<?xml:namespace prefix=”st1″ ns=”urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags”?>LEXINGTON, Ky. – Senior diver Melanie Rinaldi qualified for the NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships when she came in second on the 3-meter at the NCAA Zone B Diving Championships held at the Lancaster Aquatic Center on the campus of the University of Kentucky Saturday afternoon. <?xml:namespace prefix=”o” ns=”urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office”?>
Rinaldi turned in a score of 644.20 to finish second behind <?xml:namespace prefix=”u1″?>Auburn’s Corey Gerlauch. The top-three finishers automatically qualify for the NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships in Athens, Ga. beginning Thursday, March 16.
Junior Heather Bounds finished sixth with a score of 594.50 while sophomore Jenna Dreyer came in 10th with a mark of 557.55.
The Top-18 divers in the preliminary round advance to the afternoon’s finals. Freshman Tess Waresmith finished 23rd in the prelims with a score of 244.70.
On the men’s side, junior Derek Starks came in eighth on the 1-meter board with a score of 594.45.
The NCAA Zone B Diving Championships will conclude Sunday with the men’s and women’s 10-meter platform starting at 10:00 a.m. at the LancasterAquaticCenter.
