No. 8 Hurricanes Complete First Day at NCAA Championships

Fayetteville, Ark. (hurricanesports.com) – The No. 8 University of Miami women’s track and field team finished the first day of competition at the NCAA Indoor Championships. Dominique Darden (Harrisburg, Pa.) won her heat in the preliminaries in the 400 meter dash and qualified third for the finals tomorrow. Her time of 52.60 set a new school record in the event.
In the long jump, Brenda Faluade (Katy, Texas) and Tabia Charles (Pickering, Ont.) finished seventh and eighth. Those finishes earn both All-American status. The distinction is the fourth for Faluade who jumped 6.36m (20-10.50), her best of the season. The distinction is the seventh for Charles who posted a mark of 6.26m (20-06.50)
Ginou Etienne (Miami, Fla.) finished 11th in the preliminaries of the 400-meter running a time of 53.61. Charlette Greggs (Miami, Fla.) ran the 200-meters in 23.44 to finish tied for ninth.
The Hurricanes finish competition at the Championships tomorrow afternoon with athletes competing in the triple jump, the 400 meter dash finals, and the 4×400 meter relay. Results will be available on hurricanesports.com after the completion of the meet.
