Three Hurricane Divers Win Events at the 2006 All-Star Challenge

Senior Melanie Rinaldi turned in a score of 328.00, an NCAA Zone meet qualifying standard, to claim a victory in the women’s 3-meter championship event. During the 3-meter prelim/quarterfinal, Rinaldi finished first with a score of 304.25. She tallied a score of 299.05 the semifinal-A to reach the final.
Sophomore Jenna Dreyer won the women’s 1-meter championship with an NCAA Zone qualifying mark of 265.30. Dreyer also reached the semifinal-B of the women’s 3-meter championship event were she turned in a score of 313.80, also an NCAA Zone meet qualifying standard, besting her prelim/quarterfinal score of 254.10.
In the women’s championship platform event, junior Heather Bounds finished second with an NCAA Zone qualifying score of 309.60.
In men’s diving, junior Derek Starks claimed the 1-meter championship event with a score of 350.60–an NCAA Zone qualifying mark. Starks reached the 3-meter semifinal-D when he tallied a score of 359.10, besting his prelim/quarterfinal score of 351.10.
The Hurricanes return to action when they travel to College Park, Md. for the ACC Championship Feb. 15-18.
