Fayetteville, Ark. (hurricanesports.com) – The University of Miami Women’s track and field team competed at the Tyson Invitational Saturday afternoon. Tabia Charles, in her first jump of 13.49m (44-03.25), won the triple jump. The mark automatically qualifies her for the NCAA Indoor championships, joining the 4×400 meter relay (3:33.47) which qualified Friday evening.
The victory is Charles’ third of the season in the triple jump, and her personal best on the season. With that mark she managed to best all other competitors by almost 18 inches.
In other action in Saturday’s session, Dominique Darden ran 23.73 in the 200 meter dash to record an NCAA provisional standard in that event. That was her second NCAA provisional mark of the meet along with her run in the 60-meter hurdles (6.41). She finished ninth in the event.
In Friday’s action, Junior Ginou Etienne ran the 400 meters in 53.38, a season best that also is a NCAA provisional mark. She finished fifth in the event. Junior Amy Seward posted a mark of 6.14m (20-01.75) in the long jump on her third jump. That mark is a NCAA provisional standard and she placed eighth in the event.
The Hurricanes compete again at the ACC championships February 23-25 in Blacksburg, Va. to defend their ACC title.
