With the win, the Hurricanes improve to 3-2 overall while the Golden Panthers fall to 1-1 on the season.
Miami opened the match by claiming the doubles point after sweeping all three doubles matches. Senior Melissa Applebaum and sophomore Audra Cohen paired up to upset No. 24 Paula Zabala and Nikkita Fountain, 8-3, at the No. 1 position. At the No. 2 slot, freshman Monika Dancevic and junior Audrey Banada downed Courtney Johnson and Bruna Discordia, 8-1, while sophomores Patricia Starzyk and Caren Seenauth defeated FIU’s Shilla D’Armas/Marijana Cutuk pair, 8-2, at the No. 3 position.
Cohen continued her hot-streak with a 6-0, 6-3 straight set victory over Zabala at the No. 1 position to improve her record to 8-0.
Applebaum upended D’Armas, 6-4, 7-6, at the No. 2 slot as Starzyk topped Fountain, 6-0, 6-2, at the No. 3 position.
Dancevic extended her winning streak to five with a 6-1, 7-6 victory over Cutuk at the No. 4 spot.
Banada, ranked 40th, topped Johnson 6-4, 6-2 at the No. 5 slot as Seenauth claimed a 6-3, 6-3 victory over Discordia at the No. 6 position.
The Hurricanes return to action Sunday at 1:00 p.m. when they host No. 2 Florida. Admission to the Neil Schiff Tennis center is FREE.
