Hurricanes Ranked Ninth in Latest Fila Collegiate Tennis Rankings

<?xml:namespace prefix=”st1″ ns=”urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags”?>CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The University of Miami women’s tennis team is ranked ninth in the latest Fila Collegiate Tennis rankings that are administered by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA), it was announced Tuesday.

The Hurricanes (1-0, 0-0 ACC), who opened the season with a 7-0 sweep over Florida Atlantic last Friday,  moved up one spot from their preseason No. 10 ranking that was released Jan. 10.

 

Six Atlantic Coast Conference schools are ranked among the Top 25 with Georgia Tech ranked the highest at No. 3. Miami follows at No. 9 followed by No. 10 North Carolina, No. 13 Duke, No. 17 Clemson and No. 25 Wake Forest. 

 

The rankings come out before the Hurricanes head to the USTA/ITA National Team Indoor Championships that will take place Feb. 2-5 at the University of Wisconsin’s A. C. Nielsen Tennis Stadium in Madison. Miami, seeded seventh, will take on No. 52 Wisconsin in the first round Thursday, Feb. 2 at 9:00 a.m.

 

Seven out of the 16 teams that will participate in the tournament are ranked among the Top 10.
