Baseball Announces Changes To Schedule

Jan. 23, 2006

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The University of Miami has altered its 2006 baseball schedule to adapt to the current lighting situation at Mark Light Field. UM’s annual alumni game, scheduled for Friday, Jan. 27 has been canceled and all night games scheduled up until the Feb. 15 Louisville game have been moved to day times.

Miami’s season opener against Florida International will be played on Saturday, Jan. 28 at Mark Light Field, as it was originally scheduled, but the game time has been moved to 1 p.m. from 7 p.m. The other games affected by the time changes are on Friday, Feb. 3 against Winthrop (2 p.m.) and Saturday Feb. 4 against Winthrop (1 p.m.).

The time changes allow for the Hurricanes to play all of their home games at Mark Light Field.

“Our stadium renovation project has been, for the most part, very successful,” UM Athletic Director Paul Dee said. “We will experience a short delay in fully installing our new lighting system, which we will overcome by playing day games at home for a few weeks.”

While the construction being done at Mark Light Field to transform it into Alex Rodriguez Park has moved along steadily, recent hurricane code changes have prevented the new stadium lights from being put up, leading to the time changes.
