Hurricanes Host Cross-town Rival Golden Panthers

CORAL GABLES, <?xml:namespace prefix=”st1″ ns=”urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags”?>Fla.– The University of Miami swimming and diving team will take on cross-town rival FloridaInternationalUniversity in a dual meet Saturday at the Norman Whitten Student Union Pool. Competition begins at 11:00 a.m.

Miami (0-4, 0-3 ACC) returns to action after falling to 17th ranked Florida State in Atlantic Coast Conference action last Saturday. The Hurricanes won five events in the contest.
The Hurricanes are led by freshman Christine Zwiegers who currently ranks eighth in the ACC in the 50-freestyle with a time of 23.67. Zwiegers and junior Andrea Hughes rank fourth and sixth respectively in the 100-butterfly.
In diving, sophomore Jenna Dreyer, senior Melanie Rinaldi and sophomore Heather Bounds all rank in the ACC’s Top 10 in both the 1 and 3 meter boards with Dreyer atop the 1-meter list with a score of 309.43.
The Golden Panthers (1-5) head to Coral Gables after winning their first invitational in the programs’ three-year history. FIU is lead by junior Zita Zalai who ranks first in the Sun Belt Conference in the 100-butterfly with a time of 55.34 and is in the Top 10 in both the 100-backstroke and 200-butterfly. Senior Taryn Cokayne ranks sixth in the 200-backstroke with a time of 2:08.83.
