Hurricanes 12th in Initial Trackwire 25

Coral Gables, Fla. – The University of Miami Women’s Track and Field team is ranked 12th in the initial Trackwire Poll. Seven athletes are listed among the Dandy Dozen, the top 12 performers in the nation in each event.<?xml:namespace prefix=”o” ns=”urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office”?>
For the jumpers, senior All-American Tabia Charles, coming off her victory in the triple jump in the Florida Intercollegiate Open, is ranked fourth in that event. Charles also is ranked eighth in the long jump. Freshman Viktoria Andonova is ranked eighth in the high jump.
Junior Akera Lathan, after her recent victory in the shot put at the Florida Intercollegiate Open, is ranked eighth in that event.
For the runners, senior All-American Dominique Darden is ranked seventh in the 60-meter hurdlers and senior All-American Charlette Greggs is tenth in the 200-meter dash. Junior All-American Ginou Etienne is ranked ninth in the 400-meters. She is joined in those rankings by freshman Krista Simkims. The 4×400-meter relay team enters the initial rankingss at fourth.
The 12th ranked Hurricanes compete again at the Penn State Invite, January 27-28 at University Park, Pa.
