Miami Nearly Sweeps No. 8 Duke on Final Day of Hurricane Invitational

Miami took five-of-six singles matches and swept all three doubles matches against No. 8 Duke Monday afternoon at the final day of competition at the Hurricane Invitational – a four-team hidden dual tournament hosted at the Neil Schiff Tennis Center.<?xml:namespace prefix=”o” ns=”urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office”?>
In singles action, 25th-ranked Luigi D’Agord downed Duke’s Peter Rodrigues, 7-5, 6-2, while 87th-ranked Josh Cohen upended Joey Atas, 6-2, 1-6, 6-4.
The Hurricanes’ Danny Vallverdu knocked off Kiril Dimitrov, 7-6, 3-4, 1-0, winning the match tie-breaker 10-5.
Tim Krebs defeated Duke’s Chris Brown in straight sets, 6-3, 6-3, and Eric Hechtman bounced back from a 6-2 first-set loss to Ned Samuelson to win the second and third sets, 6-3, 6-3, respectively.
<?xml:namespace prefix=”st1″ ns=”urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags”?>Miami’s lone singles loss came when Vivek Subramanian was forced to retire against the Blue Devils’ Alex Stone with the score tied a three-all.
In doubles, D’Agord and Vallverdu defeated Atas and Walter (8-3), Krebs and Subramanian downed Stone and Rodrigues (8-3) and Hechtman and Cohen topped Ned Samuelson and Dimitrov (8-5).
