Hurricanes Fall to Seminoles in ACC Action

The Hurricanes fall to 0-4 overall, 0-3 in the ACC while the Seminoles improve to 9-1 and remain undefeated in the ACC with a 5-0 record.
Junior Tara Erwin won the first individual event of the day, claiming the 1650-freestyle in a time of 17:27.75.
Freshman Christine Zweigers also won an event, touching the wall first in the 100-freestlye in a time of 52.34. She also finished second in the 50-freestyle in 24.14.
In the 100-butterfly, junior Andrea Hughes came in second behind ACC-leader Lauren Sprag clocking in a time of 58.59.
Junior Ashley Knapp and freshman Margaret Ravenna came in second and third, respectively, in the 100-backstroke. Knapp turned in a time of 58.69 while Ravenna touched at 1:01.15.
The Hurricanes swept the women’s 1-meter diving event with all four Miami divers taking the top four spots, respectively. Junior Heather Bounds placed first with a score of 291.60. She came in second in the 3-meter with a score of 287.85.
In men’s diving, Junior Derek Starks, who competed against four Seminole divers, took first in both the 1-meter with a score of 340.35 and the 3-meter with a score of 347.55.
The Hurricanes return to action next Saturday, Jan. 21 when they host cross-town rival Florida International at the Norman Whitten Student Union Pool. Competition begins at 11:00 a.m.
