Hurricanes Finish First Day at Hurricane Invitational

<?xml:namespace prefix=”st1″ ns=”urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags”?>Coral Gables, Fla. – Members of the University of Miami men’s tennis team wrapped up the first day of competition at the 2006 Hurricane Invitational by taking two single matches and a doubles match Saturday against No. 22 Texas at the NeilSchiffTennisCenter.

In doubles action, the team of Josh Cohen and Eric Hechtman downed Hubert Chodkiewicz and Luis Diaz-Barriga, 8-6.  Vivek Subramanian and Luigi D’Agord fell to Callum Beale and Roger Gubser and Tim Krebs and Daniel Vallverdu were defeated by Travis Helgeson and Michael Venus.

 

In singles action, No. 25 D’Agord beat No. 44 Helgeson, 7-6(5), 7-6(3) and 87th ranked Cohen knocked off No. 34 Gubser, 6-3, 7-6 (3).  Vallverdu fell to Beale, 6-2, 6-2 and John Hoyes lost to Miguel Reyes Varela, 6-4, 6-2.  Milan Mihailovic defeated Krebs, 1-6, 6-2, 6-1 and Venus downed Hechtman, 5-7, 6-1, 6-4.

 

The Hurricanes will return to action Sunday 10 a.m. to face No. 48 Michigan in the second day of the Hurricane Invitational.
