Hurricanes Complete First Day of FIU Spring Classic

<?xml:namespace prefix=”st1″ ns=”urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags”?>MIAMI, Fla. – The 10th ranked University of Miami women’s tennis team picked up two singles wins against No. 45 South Florida Friday afternoon at the FIU Spring Classic held at the University Park courts. <?xml:namespace prefix=”o” ns=”urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office”?>
Sophomore Audra Cohen claimed her first win as a Hurricane after downing USF’s Neyssa Etienne, 7-6, 6-2. Junior Ana Rupic outlasted Luisa Obando 3-6, 6-2, 6-4 to also pick up a win.
In doubles, Miami’s Melissa Applebaum/Monika Dancevic duo downed USF’s Liz Cruz/Iciri Pai tandem 8-6.
The three-day tournament is being conducted in a hidden dual format where no team scores are allotted and results only count for individual records.
The Hurricanes return to action for day two of the FIU Spring Classic Saturday at 2:30 p.m. against No. 53 Illinois. Doubles will be immediately followed by singles.
