CORAL GABLES, Fla. – Second-year head coach Mario Rincon and the University of Miami men’s tennis team were ranked 39th in the latest Fila Intercollegiate Tennis rankings released Tuesday by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association.
Along with the team’s top-40 ranking, juniors Luigi D’Agord and Josh Cohen drew individual rankings of 25th and 87th, respectively.
Last season, in his first season at the helm of the Hurricane men’s tennis program, Rincon guided UM to an overall record of 12-11 and a 9th place finish in the tradition-rich ACC.
D’Agord, an All-SEC transfer from Alabama, posted an overall record of 11-3 this fall highlighted by a semifinal appearance at the UVA Fall Classic in his first season with the Hurricanes.
Cohen, a native of Weston, Fla., went 8-3 over the fall. Last season he posted an overall record of 23-12, including a 6-4 mark in conference play to earn All-ACC honors. He also became the first UM player to advance to the NCAA Tournament since 2003.
Thirteen of the 20 teams the Hurricanes are slated to face this spring are listed in the rankings, which include 75 teams, with no opponent ranked lower than 52nd. Among those include top-ranked defending ACC Champion Virginia and No. 2 Florida.
The Hurricanes will prepare for the 2006 dual season this weekend with a hidden-dual tournament featuring Duke, Michigan and Texas Saturday through Monday at the Neil Schiff Tennis Center.
