CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The University of Miami swimming and diving team closed the first half of its season with a relay meet against Northwestern and NC State Friday afternoon at the Norman Whitten Student Union Pool.
The meet consisted of 12 traditional and nontraditional relays. No team scores were allotted.
The only traditional relays that were swum were the 400 and 200 freestyle relays. Some of the nontraditional relays included the 600 and 300-Individual medley relays and the 600-freestyle relay. The schools competed in both 150-yard and 300-yard relays in the breastroke, backstroke and butterfly events. The meet also included the 50/100/150/200-freestyle relay.
Miami’s best results were in the backstroke and butterfly relays where they finished second in both the 150-backstroke relay and the 300-butterfly relay, respectively.
“It was unusual timing for us to race after finals but I was happy to see the girls get up and race,” said head coach Mariusz Podkoscielny. “We haven’t competed in about a month so it was good to have them racing again. This is a good motivator going into the winter break and we look forward to getting back in the water on December 26th.”
The Hurricanes will break for the Holidays and resume competition on Jan. 6th when they host the Second Annual Matt Gribble Invitational. The meet will begin with relays only on Friday, Jan. 6 at 3:00 p.m. and continue the following day with all events.
