Hurricanes Conclude Action at Georgia Tech Invitational

Finals opened with the 1650-freestyle event where junior Tara Erwin came in sixth with a time of 17:11.47.
Junior Ashley Knapp likewise finished sixth in the 200-backstroke, touching the wall in a time of 2:07.96
Miami had four swimmers compete in the afternoon session of the 200-breaststroke. Both Junior Kristen Lunak and freshman Christina Rau competed in the B-Final. Lunak turned in a time of 2:27.52 for 13th place followed by Rau in a time of 2:28.24 for 15th. In the C-Final, redshirt freshman Melinda Hochard touched the wall in a time of 2:28.62 for 20th place while sophomore Amy Caron came in 23rd place with a time of 2:30.30.
The Hurricanes had five swimmers compete in finals of the 200-butterfly event, highlighted by juniors Andrea Hughes and Ashley Knapp who both swam in the A-Final. Hughes came in sixth in a time of 2:07.24 followed by Knapp in eighth place in a time of 2:14.67. In the B-Final, junior Nancy Gajos finished 10th with a time of 2:07.29 while sophomore Capria DeVenuto came in 12th in 2:09.68. Sophomore Casey Heffernan rounded out Miami’s swimmers, finishing in 19th in a time of 2:13.00.
The Miami 400-freestyle relay of sophomore Emerson Davis, Zwiegers, Hughes and Knapp touched the wall in a time of 3:35.01 for seventh place.
In the morning’s preliminaries, freshman Christine Zwiegers came in sixth in the 100-freestlye in a time of 52.18. She did not compete in the afternoon’s finals.
Miami finished in sixth in the meet with 287 total points. The 16th-ranked Seminoles finished first with a score of 1,076.50, while the Yellow Jackets finished second (572), FAU (534.50), Rice (516), WKU (458). Gardner-Webb (284) and New Orleans (66), finished in sixth and seventh respectively.
