Hurricanes Conclude Day One of the Gator Fall Classic

<?xml:namespace prefix=”st1″ ns=”urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags”?>GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The University of Miami women’s tennis team concluded the first day of action at the Gator Fall Classic Friday afternoon at the University of Florida’s Ring Tennis Complex.<?xml:namespace prefix=”o” ns=”urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office”?>

 

The Hurricanes walked away with a win doubles and three singles victories in their first contests of the fall season.

 

In doubles, the Miami duo of junior Emily Mowery and sophomore Caren Seenauth defeated FIU’s Marijana Cutuk/Shilla D’Armas tandem, 8-5.

 

In singles action, Seenauth downed FIU’s Desanka Jovanovic, 6-4, 6-2 as sophomore Patricia Starzyk, ranked No 106, defeated Northwestern’s Jamie Peisel in straight sets, 6-2, 6-4.

 

Mowery, the highest ranked Hurricanes at No. 85, closed the day with a 2-6, 6-3, 2-1 def., victory over Northwestern’s Feriel Esseghir.

 

The Hurricanes return to action Saturday morning at 9:00 a.m. for day two of the Gator Fall Classic. There, they will face FIU in doubles before taking on players from Florida in singles.
